Chatting with Caroline

Well it's time for another installment of Chatting with Caroline.

While listening to KSBJ (a Christian radio station)
KSBJ: Call into our prayer and care line
C: Hey! They are talking about me!

Me: Driving, stopping, and then making a legal right on red
C :"MOMMY STOP! The light didn't turn green!"
Toddler Backseat Driver

She has since stopped but it was so sweet that she would call the letter M "em-el-you" (like W, but with an M)

A new catch phrase she used for a few weeks...
C: Mommy, can I have pancakes?
Me: You want pancakes?
C: That's what I said.

One of our favorites right now is Caroline's Matthew McConaughey phrase of "right, right, right" when we correct her for something.

Anytime we leave to go anywhere without her
Ben: Bye Caroline, I'll see you later.
C: Bye Daddy! Be good and be careful!

Caroline handed Ben her favorite baby doll to hold and she corrected him and said "two hands Daddy" because Daddy is obviously new at this.

While I was cleaning and she wanted to help.
C: I need the sniffer
She meant "swiffer"

Rollie: Barking at something outside
C: "Shh, Rollie, use your inside voice!".

During our school time one morning
C: How's the coloring going, Mommy?
Me:...
Who is the teacher here

Every time I wear a ponytail
C: I like your pony hair, Mommy

At a Mexican Restaurant
Ben: Do you want quesadillas, with chicken and cheese?
C: JUST tortillas, because tortillas are yummy
That's my girl

At the restaurant as she was standing up looking at the family in the booth next to us.
Me: Caroline, sit down babe.
C: I was just looking at that boy
Lord, help us.

And another frequently used phrase lately...
Me: We need to go into HEB so Mommy can get her flu shot
C: And how does that help us.
-or-
Me: Caroline we need to clean up the playroom
C: And how does that help us.
Me:...

I wanted to start doing an interview with Caroline every 6 months or so just to see what her answers might be and if they really lined up with what I see as her being interested in. (Her answers are in PURPLE)

Other things Caroline is doing:

She will say "Night Night" to each one of her babies when we clean up the playroom at the end of the day. She gives them each kisses and tuck them into their cradle.

Caroline has her first imaginary friend. A "brown kitty" lives outside her bedroom window and "he's so pretty"

She will sing Sweet Caroline complete with (bum, bum bums and so goods), Itsy Bitsy Spider, Five Little Monkeys, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, You are my Sunshine and lots of christian songs like 10,000 Reasons, There is Power, The River, and she will sing secular songs like Stressed Out. She will also sing parts of the Aggie War Hymn including Hullabaloo and Saw Varsity's.

She is very sensitive to people or characters that are crying or sad. She teared up in Rapunzel when the King cries over his missing daughter, she is very concerned when you hear babies crying and offer suggestions of bottles, pacis, and needing to go "night night". She also cry when Cinderella Minnie sings about not being able to find her Prince Mickey.

She likes to give us three kisses at a time, one on each cheek and one on the forehead. I melt.

She can count backwards from 10 with no problem but still sometimes mixes up 4 and 6 when counting forward. (she has since corrected it  this month but I wanted to document when that happened)

She has to have us read her a bible story before nap and bedtime. She could be asleep when we lay her down but she will wake up and come tell us she needs her "bible story"

Her favorite thing to play right now is doctor. She loves to give Ben and me checkups as well as Rollie and all of her dolls and stuffed animals. She will sing the Doc McStuffins song as she does it "Time for your check up, time for your checkup,  I'm gonna check your ears, check your eyes find out how much you've grown. Time for your checkup.  I'm going to listen to your heartbeat fix you up ready to go. Time for your check up." And when she is done with their checkups she says "I feel better, so much better now"

She calls a stethoscope a "listen scope"

You have been saying "Hey what's the big idea!" and I asked you who taught you that and you very matter-of-factly said "Donald Duck"

She has, twice now, used the phrase "I'm shaking like a leaf" in the correct context and we have no idea where you would have picked that up.

Her probably most used phrase right now is "Hey Guys" referring to us or any other group of people. It's so funny to watch her walk up to a group of big kids at the park and let out a "hey guys"

Chatting with Caroline

I like this age, if for nothing else then it makes for funny conversations. I was asking Ben the other night if he remembers Caroline before she started talking, and we both have a hard time remembering those days.

When she hears a song on the radio she likes and wants us to turn up the volume:
I need loud, Daddy!

When her hair got a little wet while playing with her water table outside.
My hair is ruined!

Conversation with C on my birthday:
C: Happy Birthday Mommy
Me: Thanks Baby
C: Where's your birthday hat?

C does not attend daycare/school but frequently comes in the room with a backpack in the morning and says:
Wake up Mommy, it's time for school!

Getting ready for the Easter Holiday, C kept referring to everything (eggs, baskets etc) as things for the
Rooster Party.

We took our first trip to the zoo and we saw all the typical animals, elephants, lions, tigers, giraffes, gorillas, flamingos, etc and when we got home we asked Caroline what her favorite animal at the zoo was she said
The Dirty Elephants (they had been throwing dirt on their backs)

This isn't a new one but a while back C would tell me that she was shy to avoid situations, whether it was talking to new people or doing new things so I taught her a little mantra, and now she uses it all the time. It is so cute to hear her say this now instead
I'm not shy, I'm brave.

When you drop something, forget something, or mess something up  your new phrase is
Oh Bumpers! (from Chuggington)

A basket of clean clothes was in the living room and C noticed one of her dresses not yet folded in the mix.
That's messed up!

When singing Old McDonald
Old McFarmer had a cow...

She picked up a phrase from Ben when watching sports on TV and will yell this when she is frustrated with something:
Awe, Come On!

When we ask her what her name is
Caroline Elizabeth Rush, That's your whole name

- We went to our friend Amanda's wedding on your birthday and you had a blast! You loved dancing and eating the chocolate cake.

- One thing your Daddy and I want to remember is that you ask for something like "Go for a walk?" and we repeat it to you to confirm what you asked "You want to go for a walk?" and then you say "Okay" like it was our idea and you are just agreeing to it. "Go play?" "You want to go play?" "Okay". Makes us laugh every time.
