My Moment with God Tonight

As behind as I am in blogging, it doesn't matter, this is more important.

I started a running program about two weeks ago. This may not seem like a long time but if you knew how long it has been since I last worked out for a consistent number of weeks, starting week three today is a big accomplishment. Anyway each week is a new set of progressively harder running intervals. Right before my last running interval, my music switched to a new song "Lay it Down" by Matt Maher.

A wise CCD (bible study) teacher, Mary Carter, once told me that everything we did could be an act of worship. Even the act of washing your hair could be an act of worship, imagine it being Jesus's hair that you are washing. That thought has stuck with me through the years and was very relevant to me tonight as I turned the corner, into the wind, to run the final stretch back to our house.

It must have been some of the hardest minutes of running I have ever experienced. The lyrics "every thing I am, everything I long to be, I lay it down at your feet" were repeating over and over to the steps I was trying to take. All the while the thought of my anguish being an act of worship, brought tears to my eyes. (PS: crying makes running all the more difficult)

I understand that my comprehension of worship is a simple one, but I find I am closest with God in these little moments He reveals himself in these opportunities of worship. Whether running, doing the dishes or washing my hair I will take it.

I finished my run, those last couple strides were all God, mind you, and I felt so overwhelmed with His grace! Oh how I do not deserve these little peaks into oneness with Him but He is offering them to me anyway. And it's not what I am sacrificing but what He is giving me in return. My sacrifice is nothing... What I am receiving is so much greater... How humbling is that?

Everything that I am
Everything I long to be
I lay it down at Your feet

I lay it down
I lay it down
I lay it down
At Your feet

Oh pearl of greatest price
No act of sacrifice
Can match the gift of life I find within Your gaze
Oh, what a sweet exchange
I die to rise again
Lifted up from the grave into Your hands of grace
